Altar Setup

Foundational altar structure and ritual tools.

The basic altar setup places God, Spirit, and Goddess in relationship, with incense, Air, Water, cauldron, chalice, Earth, Fire, pentacle, Book of Shadows or work area, and utility lights arranged for ritual use.

The altar can be made of many things and need not be permanent. Athame, wand, and sword create a focal point when directing energy in casting a circle, consecrating, invoking, and related acts. The besom purifies an area and sweeps away negative energy.

The cauldron represents the female counterpart within ritual context and may be used for burning incantations and spell work. The chalice is used in rites such as Cake and Wine. Incense represents Air. The pentacle is traditionally placed at the center of the altar. Candles, salt, water, and bell support light, elemental representation, purification, consecration, anointing, cleansing, and focus.
