Festival of First Fruits

August 2: first harvest, prosperity, generosity, abundance, and gratitude.

Date: August 2

Colors: Orange, Yellow, Brown, and Green

Customs: Offering first fruits and grains, games, county fairs

Ritual Focus: Prosperity, generosity, continued success

This sabbat is the first of the three harvest festivals and is primarily attributed to the grains ready to be picked by August. It celebrates the first fruits reaped after the sun has returned and impregnated the earth with life during the fertility rites of spring.

There is still an atmosphere of fertility within this sabbat, as the Goddess is pregnant with the God who will be born at Midwinter and the land is full of the bounty of the next two harvests. Bread, berries, and berry wines carry the symbolism of fertility, pregnancy, abundance, and feast.
