Beltane falls opposite Samhain on the Wheel of the Year and celebrates life in all its forms. It is also a fertility celebration.
The source names this as a sacred time for the Great Rite, understood here in public orientation as the symbolic sexual union and sacred marriage of the God and Goddess. That union represents Perfect Love and Perfect Trust coming together to form the wholeness and oneness of life.
Flowers, balefires, and the maypole all carry the symbolism of life, desire, illumination, and the union of divine currents.
